Zahir Tanin (Persian: ظاهر طنين), born on 1 May 1956, presented his credentials as Permanent Representative to the United Nations for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations on 19 December 2006. ==Career== Tanin is a graduate of the Kabul Medical University.〔 He worked for eleven years with the BBC World Service: as a producer from 1995 to 2001, and then as an editor until 2006, for Afghanistan and Central Asia until 2003, then for Afghanistan in the Persian/Pashto Section. Before joining the BBC, Tanin was a research fellow in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) for two years (from 1994 to 1995). He began his career in 1980 working as a journalist in Kabul.
